The majority of people will associate “Shotgun” with either firearms or the rule of getting the front passenger seat. But our divers now know that there is more hidden behind this simple word: an adrenaline pumped dive in between the islands of Gili Lawa Laut and Gili Lawadarat in the Komodo National Park. So, what makes this dive site so special?
Before moving into the channel, the reef with colorful soft corals, sea fans and table corals offers schooling Chevron Barracudas and thousands of Golden Sweepers around the coral bommies. Macro fans will be able to find Leaf Scorpionfish and Pygmy Seahorses there.
The so called “Fish Bowl” in the actual channel has its name from the deep ravine where the current gathers, therefore a perfect spot for dense schools of Giant Trevallies and Snappers. But the best part of the dive is the “Shotgun” itself: as the current is flowing up and over the reef it pushes divers over the slope to a fast drift behind the island. What a unique and fast paced dive!
