Mental Preparation

Manta Ray, Komodo National ParkBefore joining a Mermaid cruise through Komodo, it’s good to do a bit of mental preparation by running some different scenarios though your head. No, I’m not talking about mentally run through all the different underwater emergencies. Mermaid’s safety is impeccable and that won’t be anything you’ll need to concern yourself with. I’m talking about making a game plan for encountering multiple bucket list creatures at the same time!

There’s so much to see here in Komodo, and on many occasions, they all present themselves in front of your mask at the same time. mediumWithout any rigorous drilling before hand, you’ll look like a golden retriever who has just found a stick, a tennis ball, and a steak at the same time. So, what I am suggesting is, before you go to bed each night or as you type of some mindless report fort your boss, imagine encountering a hunting cuttle fish, a rare mouth brooding jawfish, and a manta all at the same moment. The manta is moving over the reef towards you while the cuttle fish hunts it’s prey and scoots away towards the deep, and the jaw fish sporadically pops it’s face full of eggs out of it’s hole. You can see the predicament now. As they are all moving in different directions, which creature do you focus your attention on? This is where the mental preparation comes in. Once you’ve prioritized your ‘Creature Wish List’ and then ran them though various likely scenarios where several are present at the same time, you’ll have a much easier time dealing with the rich Komodo diving.
